CG36: a new sow “caring for life”
Launched at SPACE by Choice, a new sow line, the CG36, is a real step forward with regard to the social expectations and current economic challenges facing pig production.
In its breed selection programme, the swine genetics company focuses first and foremost on the natural aptitude and maternal qualities of the sow. Over 4 years of R&D on the issue have resulted in a sow that naturally weans all her piglets, thanks to well developed mothering qualities and high milk production.
An exceptional lifetime performance (80 piglets weaned in total), along with an unparalleled sturdiness are also highlighted by customers who have tried out the sow and who have the lowest loss rate on the market at less than 3% per year.
In economic terms this robustness results in a lower herd replacement rate and from an environmental perspective there is less transport of pigs for breeding. Ultimately, the piglets are weaned naturally and with no assistance, becoming productive market pigs for meat. The Choice team, which launched its new tagline “Caring for Life” at the end of 2018, sees the CG36 as the fullest expression of its market position.
