Pig industry: new farming methods

The French pig farming industry is looking into new farming methods, in particular “welfare” maternity compartments to meet societal expectations.

The company Choice is no exception and has been investing in R&D in these
issues for 2 years to support its customers to make this change. Morgane Legoff (agronomy and farming-industry engineer) in charge of these issues stated: “The studies undertaken have shown a positive behavioural response to this new environment for CG36s. The sows are calmer and there are fewer crushed piglets during birthing.” Theo, a farmer on whose premises the study was carried out, notes better working comfort and everyday tranquillity.
